The Gardens Between

Family Friendly Gaming was provided a digital download code for The Gardens Between on the Playstation 4. This downloadable only puzzle game is also available on the Personal Computer and Nintendo Switch. The Gardens Between is one of the strangest puzzle games I have ever played in my entire life. More will come on that in just a moment.

We play two boys in The Gardens Between at the same time. One boy follows the other boy. They pick up light orbs and deposit them in places. Then we get stuck and must rewind time and do something different. We can get new light orbs to find a better way past the dark plants the eat the light orbs. Sometimes it is about avoiding them, and other times it is about getting a second light orb.

Graphically The Gardens Between is very indie looking. I would also describe the graphics as a bit bland. There is no talking in The Gardens Between. The music is okay. Being able to rewind and accelerate time was interesting. I know that feature has been done in numerous other video games across the history of the industry. It is a key element to The Gardens Between.

The Gardens Between confused me at times, and it made me think other times. There are cool retro objects in The Gardens Between. That is if you take time to pay attention to your surroundings in The Gardens Between. I spent more time on the puzzles. I had a spotter notice them and point them out to me after the fact. There is a very specific audience for The Gardens Between.

Are you part of that audience? Do you things like art galleries? Do you enjoy experiences that are more artsy? If you answered yes to those questions then you might enjoy this 3.22 gigs download. Make sure you system has enough space on it, and your Internet provider will let you download such a large game. I like puzzle games. I did not feel The Gardens Between was for me though.
