The Mummy
SCORE: 51
FFG Universe members who have been watching the
FFG Haul videos knew a review of The Mummy was coming. This movie
was a real low priority for us. We had a feeling it would be a really
bad movie. Guess what? We were right. Tom Cruise is not a good fit for
the The Mummy. He does not take anything serious and winds up making
this movie feel way too fake.
The storyline behind The Mummy is a bit of a strange one. Two modern day
grave robbers find a tomb of an evil Egyptian princess. This evil
Egyptian princess made a deal with the devil (Set). She wants to kill
her chosen man to have the devil take over his body. The Mummy has some
interesting twists and turns in it. The inclusion of Dr Jeckyll is one
of them. I will try to avoid spoiling anymore.
The issues families will have with The Mummy is lack of attire, nudity,
enticement to lust, violence, blood, false gods, bad language, sex
outside marriage, pushy women, gross images, sexual comments and more.
The princess in The Mummy is not much a much mummy in my book. She was
wrapped up and buried alive. She was buried in mercury because ancient
peoples believe it would hold evil.
The Mummy has some bonus features which are pretty much them saying how
awesome this movie is/was. The bonus features are deleted scenes,
extended scenes, Cruise & Kurtzman A conversation, rooted in reality,
life in zero-g, meet Ahmanet, Cruise in Action, Becoming Jekyll and
Hyde, choreographed chaos, Nick Morton in search of a soul, Ahmanet
reborn animated graphic novel, and feature commentary.
The Mummy is one of those movies that can give you nightmares. There are
certain things that happen in The Mummy out of plot convenience. Like
when Ahmanet escapes after being captured. They knew how to capture and
contain her. One little thing goes wrong and they lose how to trap her
again. I would think they would have planned for that. The Mummy needed
her free for another rampage.
