Abominable
SCORE: 80
I am so thankful Family Friendly Gaming
was sent the Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Code for Abominable. This is a cute
movie that kids will enjoy. A young Yeti is captured and being held in a
city. He escapes the place he is being held and winds up meeting Yi. She
is a hard worker trying to save money to go on a long trip like her dead
father always wanted for her. Yi decides to take the Yeti back to his
home on a long quest.
Jin and Peng accompany Yi and the Yeti (Everest) on this quest. Everest
has some magical nature power where he can make changes to the
environment. A good example is when he hums and blueberries grow on the
bushes. Sadly he does not have good control of this power in Abominable
and the blueberries get extra large and bomb the party on their quest. A
rich man chases the four to recapture his Yeti so he can prove to the
world he was not lying when he said he saw one years ago.
There are humorous moments in Abominable. I love how this movie showed
young people being too addicted to technology. Abominable has a theme of
how cool nature is in it. There are also religious images as we come
across a giant idol of Buddha in Abominable. I was dismayed when the
teenage girl Yi lied to her mothers. She wanted her mom and grandmother
off her back so she lied about the violin.
The animation in Abominable looks great. The music is fantastic. The
Eastern flair to the music is apparent right away. The chase scenes in
become fun. The teenagers do stowaway multiple times and never pay for
their trips. We made sure to have a local discussion after this movie
explaining the dangers of illegally stowing away on transport system.
The four characters really bond in Abominable.
There is plenty of bonus content on the Abominable discs. There are two
bonus shorts, deleted scenes, animating Abominable, Your Yeti Care
Guide, and more. I really like the Stranded short where we learn about
yearning and sacrifice. Abominable is a fun movie that families can
enjoy. The Yeti is a fun and innocent character confused by our world.
He cares about and for the kids in Abominable.
