Effie

Family Friendly Gaming was given a digital downloadable code to Effie on the Playstation 4. This video game is also on the Steam platform playing on the PC. Effie is a 3D action adventure platformer with a few interesting indie wrinkles. The main character is cursed by a witch with old age. He also uses a magical shield to attack with. We collect ruins, and white orbs in Effie.

The issues families can have with Effie are violence, magic, and more. I got into Effie as I played it. This game has some solid platformer elements to it. There are simple puzzles to solve in Effie as well. The colors in Effie are very interesting. Inverge Studios did some fascinating things with the colors in Effie. I enjoyed this world. The monsters are ugly and blink out after being beat up enough.

There is some fun voice acting elements in Effie. The character Garland will refer to himself when he cannot do something. Like for example he will say: “Garland cannot do that right now. He will have to come back later.” This brought a smile to my face while I was looking for the keys to that door. As we progress in Effie we learn new skills. These skills are needed to reach other areas.

I wish Effie came in the physical copy format. This is the kind of a video game that belongs at retail in my professional opinion. I enjoyed breaking all of the boxes in Effie. I feel Effie is like some of the older Zelda video games. I can see similarities to other games like some of the 3D Mario games too. You will be required to parkour through certain areas.

I enjoyed my time with Effie on the Playstation 4. There are fights that can be difficult. I died in some of them because too many enemies were coming at me at once. I learned to pick a few off, run away, and repeat that process. Effie shows this genre is not dead and can be fun again.
