First Man
SCORE: 66
I was so looking forward to First Man on
Blu-ray and DVD. This historical movie is nothing like I was expecting.
First Man is about Neil Armstrong as he was on his quest to be the first
man to walk on the moon. I am not certain how historically accurate
First Man is. I know two of the lines are accurate for certain because I
remember them from learning about the history of this event.
First Man is one of my Black Friday purchases. I had such high hopes for
this movie. First Man is slow, quiet, and dull. Neil loses his young
daughter to a brain tumor. He is generally quiet, smart, and able to get
out of nasty jams that would kill so many others in that dangerous
profession. I find it sad First Man finds time to show protestors that
are completely racist, but little time for people of faith. Leaving out
the faith element is completely inaccurate.
The issues families will have with First Man is bad language,
selfishness, death, racism, and more. The relationship between Neil and
his wife is a weird one. She is an uppity fire cracker in certain
instances. Other times she does not even seem to care. It was nice that
First Man showed how much Mr. Armstrong cared for and about his family.
First Man shows us he never really sought out the honor of being the
first human to stand on the moon.
It takes two hours and twenty-one minutes to slog through First Man.
This movie shows how many failures and setbacks NASA had during this
period. I was raised in an era where NASA was respected (and has since
lost it thanks to President Obama). For me First Man shows an
interesting historical aspect I did not even consider. As long as this
movie is actually being accurate with it. I still have some questions
about this movie like - why were there g-forces making passing out a
problem out in space where there is no g-forces?
I do not envy astronauts. After watching First Man I doubt you will
either. They go through massive strain to get out in space. They have to
be able to push their bodies beyond the pass out point to survive. There
are a few bonus features that might interest families. They are Giant
Leap in One Small Step, Recreating the Moon Landing, Shooting at NASA,
Astronaut Training, Commentary, and more.
