Heroes Trials

Heroes Trials reminds me of some of the 32-bit video role playing video games in the past. Heroes Trials is going to be challenging. Part of the problem is the dark graphics in a lot of areas of Heroes Trials. I could not always see the enemies before they hit me. Then I had to figure out what to do in each of the rooms. Sometimes I had to hit a switch with a specific attack, other times I had to kill all of the enemies in a room.

Family Friendly Gaming was given a digital download code for Heroes Trials on the Nintendo Switch. This game was just under five hundred megs in terms of a download size. The Nintendo page for Heroes Trials says it is rated 'E10+' and the game page for this game says it is rated 'E'. I went to the ESRB's website and they did not even list Heroes Trials. I choose to go with the higher rating since it makes more sense.

Expect to use violence and magic to make it through the timed quests. We must stay alive and get through the quest in the time allotted. If that were not bad enough there is another problem with Heroes Trials. What is this problem? We get very few health items in dungeons. In fact I do not recall finding one of them. It is very easy to die which means going back to the start of the quest or that area (just with less health than you came in).

Heroes Trials is definitely on the challenging side Hardcore 32-bit retro gamers may get into Heroes Trials. I found this game to be frustrating. I do not like dying over and over again in a game. Especially a role playing game. Say what you will about the Zelda games, there are plenty of health items easily found to replenish mistakes that are made fighting the same enemies over and over again.

I am not aware of a physical copy version of Heroes Trials in the United States at this time. Heroes Trials is a step up from a lot of the games Ratalaika Games publishes. They have moved on up to the 32-bit era. Which is cool and encouraging to see. Heroes Trials is an interesting idea that will reach a certain niche of gamer. I am just not in that niche. In fact no one here at FFG is in that niche.
