The Eyes of Ara

Family Friendly Gaming was offered a digital download code for The Eyes of Ara on the Nintendo Switch. This first person puzzle video game is under five hundred megs. The Eyes of Ara has been on the Personal Computer and iOS platforms previously. Families can play The Eyes of Ara on the television in TV Mode, or touch mode with the Switch undocked. The Eyes of Ara only needs one Joycon to play.

Parts of The Eyes of Ara look decent. Other parts can be dark and scary looking. Different people here at Family Friendly Gaming had different reactions to the graphics of The Eyes of Ara. It does look like a PC game from a few years back. I am thankful Family Friendly Gaming was given a copy of The Eyes of Ara. This home console and portable video game is very similar to Myst.

The controls in The Eyes of Ara gave me fits at first. It took me forever to figure out and remember the interaction keys in The Eyes of Ara. One button zooms into areas that we can get a closer look at. A different button zooms us out. Although double tapping the zoom in button will also zoom us out. We use a separate button to grab items we can use. Then when we need to use an item we use the zoom in button. Confused yet?

I did eventually figure out the controls. Then came the biggest problem I have with these kinds of games – figuring out what to do. I learned to check areas thoroughly, and try to interact with a variety of objects. The Eyes of Ara includes hints or clues in the areas. If you miss them then you will be sitting there completely stuck. The Eyes of Ara does not walk casual gamers through the game when they are stuck.

The Eyes of Ara is one of those games that will make you think. I looked around areas over and over again trying to find things to interact with. Some things looks like they were not useful. That was because I had half of what I needed. The Eyes of Ara is selling for under fifteen dollars as I write this review. If you are into downloadable only games, and like puzzle adventure games then you might enjoy The Eyes of Ara.
