The Keep
SCORE: 63
Family Friendly Gaming was given a digital download code for The Keep
on the Nintendo Switch. I am not educated into any physical copy
versions of this game on the Nintendo Switch. If you play The Keep on
your television set it might cut off some of the words which are kinds
on things you can do with certain items. If you undock the Nintendo
Switch then you can see the words just fine. Albeit they are a bit on
the small side.
The Keep is a 582 meg download. Make sure you system has enough memory
to handle this game. We get choices before we start playing this first
person dungeon crawler. Do you want permanent death or not. I suggest
you turn perma death off until you get used to playing The Keep.
Everyone here at Family Friendly Gaming got stuck right in the beginning
trying to figure out how to get past the first trap door.
The storyline in The Keep is pretty well worn. There is an evil in this
town and we go as the hero to investigate. We get captured and thrown
into the dungeon. We must then work our way back up to the evil Watrys
and defeat him. Rumors lead to the downfall of the ruling council in The
Keep. The Keep is a challenging game and there are plenty of puzzles to
figure out.
The issues families can have with The Keep are violence, magic, loose
controls and more. I had some serious problems with the controls in The
Keep. I also did not immediately realize holding the button would throw
something like a stone farther onto a pressure plate. Expect to die
early and often in The Keep. The auto save can be handy in many places.
The auto save can also hurt you.
How can the auto save in The Keep hurt you? I ran out of stamina
fighting a rat with no weapons. I backed up while I fought to regain
stamina. That was until I backed myself into a corner. That auto save
was in the fight where I had little room to back into that corner and
nowhere else to go. I had to restart the area. The Keep is a very
unforgiving game.
There are plenty of slots to hold items. The music and voice acting in
The Keep are cool. The graphics get darker with no lighting, and better
with lighting. How does Watrys get around with all of these traps? The
Keep is a game for the old school hard core first person dungeon crawler
fans. The Keep is not for casual or family gamers in my professional
opinion.
