A Fold Apart

I love clever games. I love it when a game deals with important issues and does so in a responsible way. A Fold Apart does that. What does A Fold Apart deal with? A Fold Apart deals with long distance relationships. A Fold Apart also shows how mis-communication can cause problems. Imagine you are far apart from someone you love and you dream of being together with them and how wonderful it will be. That dream could cause problems.

A Fold Apart is one of the more emotional video games I have ever played in my life. I am blessed (or cursed) with analysis. I cannot turn my analytical brain off. No matter how hard I try. A Fold Apart has layers to it that had me constantly analyzing the different lessons and nuances of emotions being portrayed. Take for example insecurity. How many video games actually deal with it? A Fold Apart does so in spades. At the same time A Fold Apart does it in a way that is subtle at times.

I loved the scenes in A Fold Apart where the man and the woman were talking, chatting, or texting. One little word can be taken the wrong way. I have been married to a wonderful woman for close to twenty years now. I completely understand this reality. I may say something and Yolanda hears something else. Or maybe I say one thing and mean that one thing. To her that same thing means something else. Or she thought I intended something else.

Compromise is extremely important in relationships. In my opinion most divorce comes from one or both parties in the marriage being selfish. There must be give and take. Without that compromise all kinds of problems arise. I applaud A Fold Apart for dealing with this important topic and giving me an opportunity to write about it. I love how A Fold Apart has us fold the rotate the screen to get from one spot to another. Stars are very important in A Fold Apart.

Family Friendly Gaming was given a digital download code for A Fold Apart on the Nintendo Switch. I hope this game gets a physical release in the near future. For us A Fold Apart was a 1.4 gig download. A Fold Apart is also on the iPad, PC, Xbox One, and PS4. A Fold Apart is a narrative experience with some gameplay mixed in. A Fold Apart does this really well too. I hope to see sequels to A Fold Apart in the future.
