Castle Pals
SCORE: 65
I am thankful Family Friendly Gaming was
given a digital download code for Castle Pals on the Nintendo Switch.
This downloadable only home console video game is very different than
any indie game I have played before. Why would I say that? Castle Pals
lets us play two different characters. We swap back and forth between
them once we complete a level. So we are one character one level and a
different one the second level. Then we go back to the first in the
third level.
What is the big deal about playing two different characters in Castle
Pals? They control differently and have different skills. The female
character in Castle Pals has gloves and can punch the enemies. The male
character can fly unlimited in Castle Pals. That means the way we play
levels changes drastically in Castle Pals. The level design also shows
this. The female character could never progress through the male
characters levels.
Castle Pals includes retro graphics and retro music. There are forty
levels in Castle Pals. In essence twenty levels per character in this
retro video game. I taught myself a variety of skills while playing
Castle Pals. For example I had to learn to attack an enemy in the air to
get farther across. It would have been awesome if a cannon was not also
shooting at the same area at the same time. So I had to get the timing
down as well.
While I played Castle Pals I found myself wondering if a certain thing
would work. There are some puzzle elements in some of the levels in
Castle Pals. I got into solving those puzzles while playing this title.
The female character in Castle Pals is Kylee. The male character in
Castle Pals is Owen. The propeller hat is why Owen can fly endlessly.
Some of Owen’s levels felt like Flappy Bird to me. Maybe that is just me
though.
Since there are so few levels expect a challenge quickly from the levels
and of course bosses in Castle Pals. In terms of download size Castle
Pals is only thirty-eight megs on the Nintendo Switch. I did not need to
delete any games to make room for Castle Pals. Expect to die often in
Castle Pals. If you have perseverance then you can complete Castle Pals.
I like the idea of Castle Pals. It feels like two short games were
merged together to make a longer one.
