Chroma Squad
SCORE: 70
Viewers of the FFG Haul live streams never
know what special treat we will have for them next. I am writing this
review for Chroma Squad on the Nintendo Switch before we have shown it
in the FFG Haul. There are some pretty cool things to show all ya’ll in
the package sent to Family Friendly Gaming from Super Rare Games. Know
about Super Rare Games right? They take interesting, fun, and quirky
independent video games that were only digital downloads and give them
the physical copy treatment.
What Super Rare Games does is needed in the video game industry. They
make a limited run on each game and you better get in on it if you want
one. I would love to see that grow into an on demand order kind of
things because I think there are gamers who would pay for a physical
copy after the run was done. I don’t know all the behind the scenes and
costs associated with that so maybe it is not currently feasible.
Chroma Squad is a turn based strategy role playing video game (aka SRPG)
where we play with a team of characters who are in essence the stunt men
for a Power Rangers like television show. There are three different
endings in Chroma Squad which will keep gamers coming back for more to
see all of them. Chroma Squad is very cool in how we cast the actors,
upgrade the studio, and purchase equipment. Those concepts make this
game feel very fresh.
The issues families can have with Chroma Squad are violence, suggestive
themes, and mild language. That is according to the ESRB which rated
Chroma Squad thirteen and older only. The PEGI rating for Chroma Squad
is seven and older. I know such a wide variance can be confusing for
some people. It threw me for a loop at first too. Another item of note
is the ESRB rated the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Chroma Squad and we
played the Nintendo Switch version.
I enjoyed the tactical game play in Chroma Squad. The whole Power
Rangers thing was hilarious to me. Especially when the characters were
obviously poking fun at the franchise. Expect great music, and pixel
graphics in Chroma Squad. This is a definite indie video game with retro
graphics in it. The gameplay makes sense and is easy to learn. I loved
how we can surround someone and work together as a team.
