Dakar 18

I am very thankful Family Friendly Gaming purchased a copy of Dakar 18 on the Xbox One. It has been a decade and a half since I last saw another Dakar video game. It should have been left in retirement status after this hot mess, Dakar 18 is a serious hot mess. I am not pleased with this particular video game. Dakar 18 is like a Rally game in the desert with no directions.

I should clarify my last sentence in the previous paragraph. Dakar 18 gives me directions that make no sense to me. I know the words are in English but they have no meaning to me. Or they have meaning but I do not comprehend how I am supposed to follow them. Rally games at least make sense. The best thing I could do in Dakar 18 was drive around and have the navigator yell at me.

Dakar 18 has a massively long installation that puts gamers to sleep. The rockish music will wake you back up again only to experience pure frustration. It is impossible to see the track, and directions are complete garbage. The modes in Dakar 18 are Adventure, Multiplayer, Explore, Ranking, and Options. We can race in a car, bike, truck, quad, or 5x5.

I ran into a variety of graphical glitches in Dakar 18. At times I was going along what looked like a flat area between sand dunes only to bottom out and the navigator yell at me about not being careful. I never saw any kind of gully though. The graphics look okay, and we can lose parts of our vehicle when we hit things, roll the vehicle, and other damaging activities.

Dakar 18 needs a map badly. I see no value in this home console confusing racing game at all. I failed at the tutorial as well. Again I go back to the poor directions. Dakar 18 is difficult even on the easiest setting. I hope this franchise goes back into retirement for another fifteen years at least. Maybe this is how this sport is played. I don’t know. Avoid this game at all costs.
