Sonic the Hedgehog
SCORE: 90
I am very thankful Family Friendly Gaming
was given a copy of Sonic the Hedgehog on Blu-ray + DVD + Digital. This
copy also came with a really cool comic book done in the 16-bit style
giving a brief overview of the movie’s storyline. I know plenty of
gamers that are skeptical of video game related movies. Look no further
than the Super Mario Bros movie for proof. I can tell you that Sonic the
Hedgehog is pretty good.
The most interesting aspect of Sonic the Hedgehog is what the rings do.
They allow characters to teleport to other places. How does it work?
Sonic thinks of where he wants to go and the ring opens a portal to that
other place. That place can be another world or somewhere else on this
world. Gives new meaning to all of that ring collection we have done in
the Sonic the Hedgehog video games over the years. I thought they were
just like coins – something to collect to earn extra lives. I wonder if
the Sonic the Hedgehog will incorporate that mechanic in the future.
We had a blast watching Sonic the Hedgehog. This movie is hilarious on
so many levels. Sonic is really lonely because different creatures want
to abuse his power. Dr Robotnik is the latest example of this. Sonic
wants friends. Sonic the Hedgehog is all about opening up and letting
people in. There is also a thread about being thankful for where you are
in a small town. Do you really need to move to a big town?
The issues families can have with Sonic the Hedgehog is violence, some
language, rude humor and more. Sonic the Hedgehog starts a bar fight at
one point. He then does wind up finishing off the fight and ending it
with his super speed. Why would that even be on your bucket list? Jim
Carrey does a fantastic job in Sonic the Hedgehog. Which is good
considering how crazy and offensive he has been on social media lately.
I was concerned his toxic hater image would hurt this film.
There are numerous bonus features on Sonic the Hedgehog. We get history
of the video game character, deleted scenes, bloopers, Building Robotnik
with Jim Carrey, and more. Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the few movies
that I enjoyed the bonus features. James Marsden also does a great job
in Sonic the Hedgehog. I noticed a whole slew of well known actors and
actresses in Sonic the Hedgehog. Collateral Damage did not really seem
to fit that role though.
