Tinkertown
SCORE: 70
Family Friendly Gaming was given a digital
download code for Tinkertown on the Personal Computer. Tinkertown
requires the Steam software to be up and running to play it. I could
find no information on a physical copy edition of Tinkertown in the US
at this time. Tinkertown clocks in at 251 megs the time this review was
written. Tinkertown is in early access. There is a big button to report
bugs on the main screen. I only report bugs when I am being paid to.
Tinkertown has nice music and can be played as a single player or
multiplayer experience. We create our characters and then create our
worlds. Tinkertown has very indie graphics. In some ways Tinkertown
reminds me of 8-bit to 16-bit video games. We get recipes when we find
certain resources. Tinkertown reminds me of Minecraft in some ways. If
Minecraft was done in the 8-bit Legend of Zelda video game format.
There are very few commands for players to remember. The mouse is used,
the G key and the TAB key. That is what the directions say. I found the
directional arrows and WASD were also used in Tinkertown. It took me a
bit to figure out how to close the menu screens in Tinkertown.
Characters have a health bar that can be depleted by things like water
and enemies. It does eventually restore itself. Early on it is very
difficult to beat enemies.
As we find more resources we can make better things in Tinkertown. Take
for example the creation of an axe. Which worked better on enemies in
fighting and allowed me to chop down some trees. We can also create
weapons and armor in Tinkertown as long as we have the right resources.
The more I crafted the more of the world I could go and explore. It also
meant I could defeat monsters much quick and take less damage.
I ran into one really weird bug while playing Tinkertown. The show all
crafting was not working. I could not scroll through the different
recipes as I got quite a few. It would also be great to have a mouse
click to close crafting menus. I am not sure the point of the crafting
table in Tinkertown since I could craft outside of it. It was one of the
first things I crafted. There is some cartoon violence in Tinkertown as
we dispose of monsters.
