Centipede
SCORE: 79
Hopefully you were able to participate in
the live stream I did of the Atari Collection 1 on the Evercade system.
Centipede was one of those games I played. The live stream was separated
out into videos and Centipede got its very own video. Sadly the audio
glitched out in that recording. I have gone back to this cartridge and
verified the audio is just fine on this game now. We can't win at video
capturing some games in some sessions. Ya'll have no idea how many
errors we are able to correct on the fly.
Centipede is all about staying alive and scoring points. The centipede
comes down toward the player. The player can shoot them and turn them
into barriers that will block the players shots and what is left of the
centipede from going that direction. The centipedes will turn around and
come down a level. The player can also move up a few spaces to avoid a
collision. The spiders are really annoying in Centipede.
The graphics are very blocky which is how they looked back in that era
of gaming on the Atari 2600. The scorpions and spiders look decent. The
audio is fun to listen to. I enjoyed the sounds as I moved around and
shot the centipedes. The graphics will change colors after the player
completely destroys a centipede. This is actually pretty neat to see in
my opinion.
Being able to move around the screen some is pretty cool in Centipede. I
wish we could shoot in all four directions. That would have been
extremely helpful in my opinion. Centipede is one of those older games
that you can play forever. If you can stay alive and do not get bored
with the action. Historical gamers will find Centipede to be very
interesting on so many levels. Centipede shows early ideas for video
games and how the industry slowly grew into what it now is.
Centipede is considered to be one of the classics by a great many. We
shoot the centipede, spider, scorpions and more. Be careful with how
long you take in Centipede. If you take too long more centipede pieces
will appear near the bottom. Centipede is a great test of your hand-eye
coordination, and reflexes. I enjoyed giving Centipede some attention
after all these years.
