Gardener’s Path
SCORE: 70
Family Friendly Gaming was given a digital
download code for Gardener’s Path on the Nintendo Switch. This version
of Gardener’s Path can also be found on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox
Series X. I was unable to find any information concerning a physical
copy release version of Gardener’s Path available in the United States
at this time. Gardener’s Path is eighty-one megs in terms of memory size
on the Nintendo Switch.
Visually and musically Gardener’s Path is done in the retro style. I
would place Gardener’s Path somewhere between the 8-bit and 16-bit eras.
Gardener’s Path is a puzzle game where the player must reach the crystal
in the sixty levels. The character is moved whichever direction we can
move them. If you move to the right then you go to the right until you
run into something.
Be careful what you run into in Gardener’s Path. Certain things will
disentigrate your character instantly. There are insects that will get
in the players way in Gardener’s Path as well. Plants can be helpful in
Gardener’s Path. The sunflowers are really helpful as they bounce us
around. If you keep dying in a level then Gardener’s Path will ask if
you want to skip the level. I skipped multiple levels I was stuck on in
Gardener’s Path.
The fantasy world in Gardener’s Path is a bit odd. There are underground
gardens that give oxygen to those on the surface. There is also
religious teachings in Gardener’s Path about a false goddess. I just
have one really important question concerning the underground gardens in
Gardener’s Path. How exactly are they getting light? That question will
haunt me for some time now.
There are some cool power ups in Gardener’s Path that add to the
gameplay. An example would be an item we can teleport back to. This is
handy when we get stuck in a dead end. We must be at least two spaces
away from something to attack it or exit the level. This confused me at
first. Gardener’s Path taught me that I needed some momentum to be able
to interact with these different items.
