Raya and the Last Dragon

I am thankful I had the money to purchase Raya and the Last Dragon on DVD. Disney has been going a strange direction for some years now. Raya and the Last Dragon is one of the strangest Disney animated movies I have seen in some time. Raya and the Last Dragon did not seem to release with much fanfare or even hoopla. After watching Raya and the Last Dragon I completely understand why. Raya and the Last Dragon is a bit of a stinker for Disney.

Raya and the Last Dragon is set in the fantasy world of Kumandra where humans and dragons once lived together in harmony. Now the dragons are all gone. Humans are fighting over the dragon stone and wind up breaking it. The ancient evil is released and starts turning humans into stone again. The dragons are all gone and the humans have no defense against the Druun. The world is considered broken and getting worse in Raya and the Last Dragon.

The crew that save Kumandra are motley indeed. Failure looks evident at every single corner. The selfishness of human is completely on display in Raya and the Last Dragon. The solution this movie suggests is to trust others and make the first step. Almost every single time that idealogy fails in Raya and the Last Dragon. SPOILER ALERT! It does predictably work in the final attempt where the entire world is at stake.

The issues families can have with Raya and the Last Dragon are lying, theft, violence, magic, spirits, and more. Raya and the Last Dragon has a strange religious system where humans worship the dragons. The dragons are shown to be weak and not worthy of their worship. I found no characters in Raya and the Last Dragon to relate to. The story in Raya and the Last Dragon was meh at best.

I can see why so few people said much about Raya and the Last Dragon. This movie release did not reach people. Disney needs to work on their stories, characters, casting, and of course marketing. The best thing about Raya and the Last Dragon is this cool sword that can change into a grapling hook. Raya's pet friend Tuk Tuk is the one charming character within Raya and the Last Dragon.
