The Pacific
SCORE: 57
One of my Black Friday purchases from 2021
was The Pacific. I knew very little about The Pacific. I knew this was a
10-Part HBO Miniseries. Almost every episode of The Pacific is close to
one hour. It takes five hundred and thirty minutes to watch The Pacific
from start to finish. There are also three special features included.
The special features within The Pacific are Profiles of The Pacific,
Making The Pacific, and Anatomy of The Pacific War. The Pacific is
definitely not for children.
The issues families will have with The Pacific are bad language, blood,
death, nudity, sex outside of marriage, war, and battles. The Pacific
can be depressing at times. Suicide is something that is shown within
The Pacific as well. There are some anti-Christian moments within The
Pacific too. I was dismayed that Holly Weird yet again does not bother
to defend the faith at all. The Pacific attacks it, but does not provide
any response.
The Pacific shows the sacrifice the Marines showed over and over again
in the Pacific theater. The mental health issues from war were shown in
The Pacific. What I found most interesting is The Pacific does not
identify the mental health issues directly. Men going crazy is shown in
The Pacific. Men put in cages after losing their mind is shown. Men with
PTSD are shown. None of that is directly identified.
There are some humorous moments found within The Pacific. I wonder how
much of The Pacific embellishing at certain points is. I was in the
military and no one swore like they did in The Pacific. It makes me
wonder if The Pacific is accurate or not in that regard. Did the
Japanese come running at the lines over and over again in the real war?
I don’t know the answer to those questions.
The information on specific soldiers after the war in the last episode
were very interesting to me personally. I am amazed at how much impact
some of these men had. I felt bad for the sergeant in The Pacific. He
went back into the war and wound up dead. He could have gotten out of
the Marines and lived out his life. So many lives were thrown away in
World War II according to The Pacific.
