The Rising of the Shield Hero 1

This review is the first time Family Friendly Gaming has reviewed manga. Over Christmas break the idea came to me and I wanted to work on Shield Hero first. Why? I have seen the anime and the story interested me. There are plenty of other manga we may get into in the future. The Rising of the Shield Hero 1 is the first one and we will see how it goes. I love expansions here at Family Friendly Gaming and this is the most recent.

The Rising of the Shield Hero 1 tells the story of a young Japanese man(Naofumi Iwatani) brought into a different world where he becomes one of the four heroes of legend. What is interesting is he is treated badly in The Rising of the Shield Hero 1. He is falsely accused of rape, cannot hold a weapon, and can only defend. He must buy a slave to do the fighting for him, and gets treated like dirt because he is seen as a rapist.

The Rising of the Shield Hero 1 has blood, gore, violence, and more in it. The entire manga of The Rising of the Shield Hero 1 is in black and white. There is no official rating of this book to tell us what age is appropriate. I would say thirteen is a good age to pick. I make that call mostly based on the content found within and the questions children could ask you concerning some of those topics.

The writing and art work are fantastic in The Rising of the Shield Hero 1. The emotion shown in the art is very revealing. The artist shows his skill in that regard. The story telling draws in the reader and makes them realize the Shield Hero is getting the shaft in this fantasy world. He is also learning things and trying things the other heroes are not even considering. The world in The Rising of the Shield Hero 1 is like an online game to them, but a book to Naofumi.

Reading the book backwards is a bit odd in The Rising of the Shield Hero 1 at first. I got used to it though. The length of The Rising of the Shield Hero 1 is good and there is even some bonus content at the end. The growth and progression of the characters in The Rising of the Shield Hero 1 is fantastic. I look forward to additional manga reviews in the future. Probably the next one in this series.
