The Rising of the Shield Hero 2
SCORE: 76
I cannot believe how quickly I breezed
through The Rising of the Shield Hero 2. This manga book is showing the
growth and progression of this franchise. Most of The Rising of the
Shield Hero 2 feels like the growth and progression of Raphtalia.
Naofumi Iwatani is still front and center in The Rising of the Shield
Hero 2. He even gets to duel the spear hero who takes offense to the
Shield Hero owning a slave.
The Shield Hero is growing and creating more new shields in The Rising
of the Shield Hero 2. He is learning how to fight better. The
interesting sub thread being touched upon in this franchise is how food
tastes to Naofumi. The heroes face the first wave of enemy attacks and
the Shield Hero shows his grit as he saves people. The other three
heroes go off to fight the boss and could care less about the people of
that world.
The issues from the previous book are still present in The Rising of the
Shield Hero 2. There are references to the false accusation of rape as
other characters believe it. SPOILER ALERT! Raphtalia even shows that
she believes in her master Naofumi and sings his praises. This really
shocks the other heroes who think very ill of him. There is some
definitely foreshadowing going on there.
There is some blood in The Rising of the Shield Hero 2 as monsters are
disposed of. Characters like the princess who are supposed to be
righteous wind up cheating. The poor Shield Hero gets abused and cheated
multiple times in The Rising of the Shield Hero 2. He comes close to
creating the revenge shield which would have been very bad at this point
in the story. Again we get some excellent foreshadowing.
The artwork continues to express some major emotions in The Rising of
the Shield Hero 2. I can feel the Shield Heroes pain in The Rising of
the Shield Hero 2. I can also see that The Rising of the Shield Hero 2
is a turning point for him. He is growing, improving, and could soon
surpass the other heroes at this rate. The Rising of the Shield Hero 2
shows who the true hero is and it is about saving others and not seeking
glory for yourself.
