The Rising of the Shield Hero 3
SCORE: 72
I am very thankful Peter purchased the
manga The Rising of the Shield Hero 3. The story is continuing to grow
and develop. The egg Naofumi purchased now hatches into his new feathery
companion Filo. She is a giant bird that can also transform into a
human. Naofumi gets something very rare indeed. We learn quite a bit
about Filo in The Rising of the Shield Hero 3. We also learn more about
Raphtalia.
There are a couple of issues of concern in The Rising of the Shield Hero
3 for families. There is some bad language and there is more blood. The
Shield Hero may be treated like a criminal but he is a true hero in this
manga. He helps out the people and does not extort them. At the same
time he is becoming quite the merchant in The Rising of the Shield Hero
3. He uses his merchant skills to improve his standing.
A great example of how Naofumi acts is he saves a city from another one
of the four legendary heroes. He requires payment for this service in
The Rising of the Shield Hero 3. He declines their money since they are
trying to rebuild the town. Instead Naofumi asks for a cart for Filo to
pull around. This opens new avenues of revenue for Naofumi and allows
them to travel between towns that much faster.
A hidden power is revealed in The Rising of the Shield Hero 3 as well.
SPOILER ALERT! Fighting a Zombie Dragon Naofumi unlocks a Cursed Shield
that saves the day. It does come with a price though. We are left in a
cliff hanger at the end of The Rising of the Shield Hero 3. I have seen
the anime already so I generally know where that goes. Still it is neat
to see it in the manga format. The emotion of the moment is really high.
We see in The Rising of the Shield Hero 3 how Naofumi is constantly
cleaning up the messes of the other heroes. They do not think through
their actions or follow through on the damage they cause. Leaving a
dragon corpse around to rot and make an entire village sick is a great
example. Magic is also touched upon in The Rising of the Shield Hero 3
from time to time. I am enjoying working my way through this manga.
