Turrican Flashback

I am thankful Family Friendly Gaming was given a digital download code for Turrican Flashback on the Nintendo Switch. Turrican Flashback can also be found on the Playstation 4. There is a physical copy edition available for Turrican Flashback from Strictly Limited Games. The four games that are a part of Turrican Flashback are Turrican, Turrican II The Final Fight, Mega Turrican, and Super Turrican.

The history of Turrican is interesting indeed. The games in Turrican Flashback span from the Commodore 64 to the Genesis/Super NES. That is quite the range. I noticed a nice graphical improvement from the first two games in Turrican Flashback to the last two. Turrican Flashback includes a really cool feature that will appeal to a variety of gamers – cheats. Turrican Flashback tells the player what cheats work on the game from the past.

Turrican Flashback is a 2D side scrolling video game where we play a space marine battling against robotic and bio-robotic characters. The player shoots them and avoids getting hit themselves. It is interesting that I found more success in Turrican Flashback by taking it slow. Why do I say that? Turrican Flashback is a fast paced game where one might thing going as fast as possible is the way to succeed. I did better with slow strategy.

The music in Turrican Flashback is fantastic. I was jamming to it while holding the fire button down and jumping around. Be careful with background water falls because they will knock you down. Our space marine can jump a decent height though so it is balanced quite well. There are a plethora of power ups in Turrican Flashback that make the game easier. I loved some of the guns that hit more enemies, or bullets that bounce off rocks.

Turrican Flashback reminds me of the Contra franchise in quite a few ways. There are plenty of things to shoot and plenty of explosions. I am normally not into retro 2D side scrolling shooters. For some reason I actually enjoyed my time with Turrican Flashback. Maybe it is the historical aspects to Turrican Flashback. I absolutely love how the original cheats are included and shown in Turrican Flashback.
