ALL-NEW FIREFLY #2
SCORE: 68
When I was at the local comic book store for the second time recently
I tried to find something of interest to purchase for a review. ALL-NEW
FIREFLY #2 caught my eye and I decided to check it out. I did enjoy the
Firefly television show and the Serenity movie was fascinating. Please
note Serenity is a restricted movie so that is something for adults
only. I was unable to find the first issue so I went with what they had.
ALL-NEW FIREFLY #2 has decent art but most of the characters do not look
right. At least not to me. I have been noticing that with different
comic books lately - the art of real people does not match. It is like
they do not even really try in ALL-NEW FIREFLY #2 to make the characters
match. The writing in ALL-NEW FIREFLY #2 matches the characters quite
well in my opinion.
I obviously missed a lot in the Firefly universe because Kaylee is the
captain in ALL-NEW FIREFLY #2. Mal is there but serving under Kaylee.
This felt really weird to me. The whole dynamic does not feel right.
Kaylee was not exactly the most intelligent character in Firefly. Nor
did she really shown any leadership tendencies. I have no clue how or
why that happened. I just know it felt really off.
The issues families will have with ALL-NEW FIREFLY #2 are violence,
blood, light bad language and more. There are twenty-two pages of the
comic in ALL-NEW FIREFLY #2. Then we have some pages of ads for comics
that did not interest me in the slightest. ALL-NEW FIREFLY #2 looks and
feels pretty dark to me. There is a debate among characters about
respecting or stealing from religious people. Buddha is celebrated in
ALL-NEW FIREFLY #2 over Christianity.
The storyline in ALL-NEW FIREFLY #2 has been used before. The crew needs
help and goes to a monastery. They are being harassed by some criminals.
So the crew of the Firefly goes after them to help the monks. ALL-NEW
FIREFLY #2 has the crew stand off and get in a fire fight. It is a
miracle only a few characters were shot with so many people so close to
one another shooting guns. They plan on going after these criminals in
the next issue.
