Batman Beyond Neo Year #3
SCORE: 73
I continue my exploration of comic books and Batman Beyond Neo Year
with Batman Beyond Neo Year #3. Thankfully I had the money to purchase
this comic book. It is neat that we were able to get into comic book
reviews around the same time as when this one started. Batman Beyond has
always been a franchise that interested me. In some ways I regret
getting rid of all of those comic books I had as a kid and teenager. The
market for the comic book industry tanked. I should have thought of the
long game. At the time I was moving from place to place and they were
heavy to keep moving. There will be spoilers in this review.
Batman Beyond Neo Year #3 reiterates the belief that Neo Gotham is
alive. Barbara Gordon retires in Batman Beyond Neo Year #3. The CEO of
Wayne-Powers Dominic Lumos is throwing her a party. Lumos announces that
Wayne-Powers will be taking over Police Department. The mayor is also
missing in Batman Beyond Neo Year #3. What happened to him? Terry
decides to go and find out. Sadly he winds up walking right into a trap
while doing his investigating. McGinnis does not think he has the
detective skills Bruce Wayne had. In some regards he is probably right.
The artwork is nice in Batman Beyond Neo Year #3. We meet Beam Boonma
who is a police officer. She might be one of the few good cops. Terry
tries to get to know her but she is all gruff, and a bit abusive. She
may become an ally down the road. Time will tell. Terry also mentioned
in Batman Beyond Neo Year #3 that he cannot show his face or Batman's
face anywhere. I do not understand what happened that made Terry
McGinnis a wanted man. Maybe that will be addressed in future issues of
Batman Beyond Neo Year. Ads are included in the middle of this comic
book, and at the end.
There are twenty-two pages of content for families that read Batman
Beyond Neo Year #3. Some of the lessons within Batman Beyond Neo Year #3
are distrust people in power, women are better than men, men are weak,
men are dumb, corruption is in corporations, government is not to be
trusted, do it yourself, and more. The twist ending in Batman Beyond Neo
Year #3 will have readers coming back for more. I feel like the story
barely progressed in Batman Beyond Neo Year #3. We see one leave (maybe)
and another come into frame.
This whole city being alive thing is just odd to me still. I feel like
that is a false belief that is really being drummed into the readers
minds. It is really a paranoid delusion. Maybe that is what the writer
is going for. Maybe he wants to make Terry McGinnis look pretty
unhinged. His writings to Bruce are very controlled so ultimately it
does not really fit the character. I plan on continuing to read this
comic series for at least a bit longer. I will see where they are going
with it.
