Dig Dug II
SCORE: 78
I will come right out with it. Normally
sequels to video games are better than the originals. There are some
aspects of
Dig Dug II that are better than the original. There are also some
aspects of Dig Dug II that do not match up with the original. Thanks to
the Namco Museum Collection 2 on the Evercade I was able to play and
review Dig Dug II. It was really fun to be able to video capture Dig Dug
II and show off the game for our wonderful viewers.
Dig Dug II no longer has the player digging. Instead we are on flat
ground where we and the enemies walk around. There are obstacles and
objects the enemies must phase through. We still inflate the enemies and
blow them up for points. The whole strategy changes as we must try and
avoid getting cornered by the monsters in Dig Dug II. We can no longer
drop rocks on them either. This really perplexed me. The core of Dig Dug
II is to walk around and inflate the enemies.
Graphically Dig Dug II looks a bit better than the original game. The
music is also pleasant to listen to. The music is very similar in Dig
Dug and Dig Dug II. Why change a good thing if it works right? Just
remember what I said about all the gameplay elements that changed in Dig
Dug II. I guess they thought digging no longer would be a good idea. How
is it Dig Dug II without any digging? I know I am obsessing but it still
bothers me.
Dig Dug II can be fun to play in short bursts. Dig Dug II does not
capture my interest and attention like the first game in the series did.
This is a real shame in my opinion. The changes to the gameplay are what
ruins Dig Dug II for me. Violence is the main issues families can and
will have with Dig Dug II. We inflate enemies until they explode and
leave us points.
There is one really important lesson I gleaned from Dig Dug II. It is
always important to fast and go on a diet. You do not want to get all
blown up and inflated. Do not forget to fast from time to time. It is an
important part of a healthy life. Plus fasting and dieting will save you
money in the long run. Two family members can inflate members in Dig Dug
II if you so desire. Dig Dug II is one of those examples where the
sequel does not surpass the original. At least not for me.
