Earthworm Jim
SCORE: 57
I am very thankful I had enough money to purchase the Interplay
Collection 1 on the Evercade systems. Earthworm Jim is one of the six
video games on that cartridge compilation. I remember Earthworm Jim from
the 16-bit era. Earthworm Jim looks really nice for that era. There is
plenty of wonderful animations. As you might guess there are going to be
some issues with Earthworm Jim as well. Some of them could have been
avoidable in my personal and professional opinion.
The first problem I had with Earthworm Jim is collision detection. I
could jump up and it looks like I could land on a platform. It would not
happen. There are way too many blind hits that happen in Earthworm Jim
too. I had to look for the orange bird beaks or I would take a hit from
a crow. The difficulty within Earthworm Jim can be very frustrating.
Swinging can be a monster pain to deal with in Earthworm Jim. There are
a ton of ways to take damage. Expect to die early and often within
Earthworm Jim.
We can whip the worm head of Earthworm Jim at enemies in specific
directions. We can also use a gun and shoot a lot of the enemies. Please
note that you only have so much ammo unless you collect more. Level
progression can be extremely confusing within Earthworm Jim. I found
myself wondering which way to go over and over again within Earthworm
Jim. If you like to launch cows then Earthworm Jim will let you do that.
The music and sound effects within Earthworm Jim are classic. Some of
them are on the annoying side. That may just be me though. I was already
frustrated with dying again and again thanks to cheap hits and
impossible to get through areas. I want to have fun playing Earthworm
Jim. I did not in the 16-bit era and I still do not to this day.
Earthworm Jim did a lot of cool things. Ultimately it is not my kind of
a game.
If you like really challenging 16-bit video games where you can shoot
with a gun and use close range attacks then Earthworm Jim might be for
you. The world of Earthworm Jim is odd in so many different ways. I did
a video of Earthworm Jim that can be found on the Family Friendly Gaming
website in the videos section. Just look up the Evercade system in
Videos to easily find it. We also plan on releasing that video on our
video sites when the resources are available.
