GoTris
SCORE: 95
I am so thankful that we had the money to purchase the Evercade VS
system. GoTris is one of the extra secret video games that can be played
if you place in any cartridge and hit L2+R2+Select. Then GoTris comes up
as a free video game that families can play. GoTris is going to have a
couple of historic distinctions to it. First off GoTris is the first
Evercade video game we have given the highly sought after FFG Seal of
approval. A very small percentage of video games earn the FFG Seal of
approval. GoTris is also the first Sega Master System video game we are
reviewing for the website.
We knew little about GoTris before playing it. If you caught the live
stream then you know Peter and I were learning the game live. If you
caught the video in our video section then you can see the reactions as
they happened without any edits. We have white and black circles in
GoTris. They drop down like Tetris. These white and black orbs come in
groupings of four that are two by two. We can rotate them around as we
drop them onto the floor and the other orbs that are currently sitting
there.
The way to make an orb go away in GoTris is to surround it. So if there
is a black orb with white orbs completely around it then the black orb
and the white orbs vanish. Then a bomb will drop which can take out some
more orbs. This sounds really simple but once you start playing it can
be challenging to surround any orb in GoTris. Especially when we are so
used to getting three in a row, complete lines and groupings of four.
GoTris is a very family friendly video game that was made in 2021. I
know what you are thinking. The Sega Master System has been a dead
system for a very long time. That may be the case but new video games on
retro systems continues to grow and build. GoTris shows that we can
enjoy some fun older style video games to this day. I like GoTris way
better than a lot of modern video games personally. This is a fun puzzle
video game.
GoTris looks decent and the music is fantastic. The intro screen has
some nice graphics for the system it was designed for. Explosions of the
orbs has a nice little special effect to it as well. I am pleased that I
spent no additional money on purchasing GoTris. As I write this review
an interesting idea hit me. What if a company did a game across multiple
platforms. I know there was an RPG that did this where it started really
old and moved to more modern eras. What if GoTris was then done for the
Genesis, and Saturn, then Dreamcast, etc. I think that would be pretty
neat.
