Incantation

I am so very thankful I had the money to purchase the Interplay Collection 1. Incantation is one of the video games that came on that cartridge. I do not recall Incantation from the 16-bit era. In some ways I can see why Incantation did not leave much of a mark in the minds of many gamers. Incantation was released near the end of the life time of the Super NES. Incantation is consider a rare game by some. It is neat that it is on the Evercade and more gamers can experience it.

We play a little wizard in Incantation. We attack with magic from his wand. The wizard is one of the short squat characters. The graphics do look decent for the era. I learned to be very careful shooting the magic from the wand in Incantation. Why is that? There are teleporting spheres within Incantation. They can send you to different areas of the level and even different levels. The problem came up when I was trying to take out an enemy and teleported back to the beginning of the level. This led to all kinds of frustration.

The music in Incantation is pleasant. I saw some trees in Incantation that reminded me of the Kirby video games. There are coins to collect in this 2D side scrolling video game. We pick up different wands along the way that shoot out different magical attacks. Some of the wands are better than others in my opinion. The ugly monsters will vanish when the player shoots them enough times. I really like the rolling hills in Incantation. They may show the limitations of the hardware at the times, but Incantation tries to go beyond.

The difficulty of Incantation is up there until you learn the patterns. The first boss at the end of the first level is a great example of this. It took some time to take that big guy down. His little bubbles he sent at me were annoying. I learned while I battled against him. If you missed the live stream where I played Incantation then you can find a video of my game play in the video section of the Family Friendly Gaming website.

Incantation is an interesting game for me to see. I can see why so many were not into this game. I am a little queasy about having to play a wizard like this in Incantation myself. There are too many cheap hits within Incantation. Sadly that is part of what we were given back in that era. As well as enemies that will re-spawn. I always thought that had more to do with memory but I could be wrong.
