Pac-Man
SCORE: 90
A lot of people complained about the Pac-Man experience on the Atari
2600. I played that game quite a bit. It was not horrible. It was not
nearly as good as the 8-bit NES version was. This version of
Pac-Man is
the 8-bit NES version that was ported over to the Evercade. I am so
thankful I had the money to purchase the cartridge that Pac-Man came on.
If you are curious it is on the Namco Museum Collection 1 on the
Evercade.
Most families have some clue as to who Pac-Man is. This game was one of
the well known and iconic franchises. There is Pac-Man in a maze and
four ghosts. There are four power pellets that can be eaten to allow
Pac-Man to eat the ghosts. The ghosts will go back to the middle area
and then come after Pac-Man again once they are eaten. The design of the
maze in Pac-Man is brilliant. Pac-Man on the 8-bit has the feel of the
arcades as well.
Pac-Man looks good on this cartridge just like it did in the arcade.
There might be some graphical drop here and there. This version of
Pac-Man certainly looks way better than the Atari 2600 version. I love
the different fruit we can collect in Pac-Man as well. It is so neat to
see it sitting there just below the middle ghost area. Being able to
swap sides from left to right is very handy in Pac-Man.
There are multiple ways to play Pac-Man as well. You can use the power
pellets to collect as many pellets as possible, or you can use the power
pellets to get as many ghosts as possible. The reason you would go for
more ghosts is to get a higher score. Plus it keeps the ghosts off your
back for a little bit. It is also cool to see the ghosts run from the
player versus chasing the player.
There is not much I can say about Pac-Man that has not already been
said. This is a well known legendary franchise within the video game
industry. It is a real pleasure for me to play and review Pac-Man. I
have played a wide array of Pac-Man sequels in the years since this game
was released. Pac-Man has had a real enduring and lasting legacy. I hope
to see more games like Pac-Man in the future.
