Phelios

Phelios is another retro video game that came in the Namco Museum Collection 2. I am getting so much content out of that one purchase. Phelios was on the Sega Genesis back in the 16-bit era. Phelios was also in the arcades. This is a shooter where we are flying on a Pegasus. We are trying to save the princess Artemis. Phelios is based off of Greek Mythology.

The princess was kidnapped and turned to stone. Typhon used Medusa to turn the princess to stone. We must shoot all of these creatures in our way to get to the princess and save her. Phelios is a very challenging shooter in my opinion. I had issues getting through the first level which is on the longer side for one of these shooters. The sword power gauge is a bit odd as well.

We can hold the fire button to charge a shot. When that is done the sword power gauge is full. If we spam the fire button we do less damage. Which can be hard to avoid with all of these things coming after us and constantly shooting at us. The screen will go left and right as well as forward while we are playing Phelios. I did not have much fun playing Phelios. It is one of those games that would require quite a bit of practice to get good at.

The issues families will have with Phelios are lack of attire, enticement to lust, violence, false gods/goddesses and more. The give and take with the power gauge felt strange to me in a shooter where I am constantly trying to clear a path. Phelios can assist people with their reflexes. That is if you do not rage quit because of the difficulty within Phelios.

Phelios is an interesting idea for a shooter. I can see where different things were tried. I applaud Namco for trying some different stuff with Phelios. This game is way before casual gamers or family gamers were ever considered. Phelios is hardcore through and through. Phelios contains bright colors with plenty of explosions. Phelios will keep gamers on their toes while they attempt to stay alive.
