Rumble
SCORE: 75
I am very thankful we had a free month of
Paramount+ because it allowed us to watch Rumble. This movie flew under
the radar recently. We find a fascinating animated world in Rumble where
there are monster that wrestle one another. Monsters are tied to a
certain city and the city comes together to support them in all aspects
of their lives. They go to huge stadiums to cheer, and even make their
businesses relate to their particular monster wrestler. There is one
monster wrestler champion that holds the belt.
We find out about the town of Stoker in Rumble. They had the champion
Rayburn many years back but he was lost at sea. The human coach was also
lost. We find out about Winnie who was the daughter of the human coach.
She even helps out the current Stoker monster Tentacular win the title
against King George. Then Rumble throws the viewer for a curve.
Tentacular decides to move to a different city (Slitherpoole) and take
the title with him.
The town of Stoker is in all kinds of trouble because they will lose the
stadium without a monster to wrestler and bring in revenue. They have a
loan due. Winni decides she will find another monster and coach them
thanks to her dads old playbook. She runs across Steve who is actually
Rayburn Jr. She messes up a fixed match for him and he needs money. So
Steve agrees to fight for Stoker. Rayburn Jr. is not his father. He has
a completely different skillset.
Winnie realizes that Rayburn Jr. is really good at dancing. This
infuriates Marc Remy (voiced by Stephen A. Smith) a sports commentator
on monster wrestling. This dancer is beating all these wrestlers in
Rumble. Although the dancing gimmick has been used in professional
wrestling in the past. I am not sure those dancers ever got over in pro
wrestling. Stephen A Smith certainly does the good job of being angry
and indignant. I wonder if Skip Bayless will be given voice acting
opportunities like this one?
Rumble is really funny and there is some nice animation in it. The voice
acting is solid. There is some violent content within Rumble. The bad
monster in Rumble is shown as very selfish. He does not want to compete
against the image of the past champion. His answer to dealing with a
large shadow is to destroy anything that cast that shadow. He does not
care that others did things to get him to where he is. That ungrateful
attitude is shown in Rumble.
