Skater XL
SCORE: 65
I live streamed Skater XL on Twitch
recently. This game had sat in the pile for some time. I decided to
check out this game. If you missed my live stream you can check out the
video section of our website since the content is being turned into a
VOD and will be on our website. It will also be appearing on our video
sites in the future as long as we have the time and financial resources
to do so.
I ran into a couple of major problems while playing Skater XL. The music
got part of the live stream muted which means you lose all of my
commentary. I will try to remember in the future to turn the music off
on games like this one. It is just lame that Easy Day Studios included
music that content creators have to deal with in this fashion. Why
include copyright content that will mute a live stream? It just makes
use mute all the music. Which makes me wonder why include music in the
first place.
The controls in Skater XL are extremely difficult and frustrating to
use. One stick is used for one foot and the other stick is used for the
other foot. That means you must try and perform the tricks doing
different things with your feet. Grinding is very difficult in Skater
XL. I flopped my character more times than I care to count trying to
grind. I am used to skateboarding video games where we latch onto the
object to start the grind.
The game play areas are very tiny in Skater XL. There are community
created levels that are even smaller. I tried to play with others online
and there was nobody playing Skater XL or the servers would not connect
anyone. I can see why the community for Skater XL is so small. This game
will only appeal to hardcore gamers that want to invest massive amounts
of time learning the overly complex controls.
Skater XL looks okay. There are some questionable physics within Skater
XL. I also question how certain things worked. I dropped about fifteen
feet and would have broken my ankles and most likely the board. Skater
XL let me continue as if nothing had happened. There is blood in Skater
XL. Expect to fall often with the janky physics of your skater. I wanted
to like Skater XL so badly. Unfortunately it is lacking in all areas. I
am thankful my dad had enough money to purchase Skater XL on the PS4.
