Spelunky 2
SCORE: 69
I knew what I was getting into with
Spelunky 2. I knew this downloadable only cave exploring title would be
extremely difficult. I knew Spelunky 2 is one of those games where you
might not even make it out of the first level. It takes skill to make
such an aggravating video game that randomly generates. In fact that is
how I was able to beat the very first level a few times. The random
generation worked in my favor.
We get so many bombs and ropes in Spelunky 2. The bombs will blow away
chunks of rock to help us progress easier and faster. The ropes allow us
to climb up cliffs so we can move along in the level. Those items are
severely limited meaning Spelunky 2 is constantly finding ways to put
the screws to the player. We can choose from four different characters
in Spelunky 2. None of the characters spoke to me though. I was not able
to relate to any of the playable characters in Spelunky 2.
The issues families will have with Spelunky 2 are blood, violence,
gambling, and more. I found it interesting the daughter lands on the
moon to see some ancient ruins. Those ruins transport her to some other
place where we face all of these obnoxious levels. Expect to take many
cheap hits in Spelunky 2. The timing of the enemies seems random at
times as well. Our whip length is very short in Spelunky 2. We also take
fall damage if we fall too far in Spelunky 2.
I found it very easy to die in Spelunky 2. We get so few hearts that it
is a given. If you can earn enough gold in Spelunky 2 then you can
purchase helpful items in the store. The cost of the items is really
high in my opinion. This is another area that Spelunky 2 makes sure the
player cannot get ahead easily. Even though I died over and over again
in Spelunky 2 I find it very addicting.
The modes in Spelunky 2 are Play, Online, Options, Leaderboards, and
Player Profile. Under the Play option we can select Adventure, Seeded
Run or Arena. Under the Online option we can select Adventure, Daily
Challenge, and Custom Arena. I did not really have fun in Spelunky 2.
The random generation makes it harder to memorize patterns. The
difficulty in Spelunky 2 makes me want to play something else. Which I
did. Thanks to Xbox Game Pass we paid nothing to play Spelunky 2.
