Street Racer

Street Racer is another one of the twenty games I was able to play thanks to the Atari Collection 2 cartridge on the Evercade. These cartridges and this system is helping us create all kinds of content here at Family Friendly Gaming. This is one of the reasons I am so excited about the Evercade systems. Few other systems and cartridges generate this much content and interest for us.

Street Racer is an old Atari 2600 video game from 1977. Street Racer is a one or two player video game. If you play by yourself then you will compete against a computer controlled character. We have a race car vehicle in Street Racer. We are on one side of the road and the computer is on the other side. Or that would be players on each side. We move left and right in Street Racer to avoid hitting other vehicles.

Scoring in Street Racer is based on how many cars you pass. If you crash into a vehicle then you will slow down and see their damaged vehicle. This becomes important because the more cars you pass in a row the faster you will go. This means Street Racer becomes exponentially more difficult. Street Racer also will let you get a nice high score if you can avoid enough vehicles in a row.

Graphically Street Racer looks like an early Atari 2600 video game. The car models are basic and big. The sounds and special effects in the audio department fit the game well. The cars will move from right to left or left to right. Some will stay straight. Players must quickly react to Street Racer. I am not clear on how or when Street Racer decides to call the race.

Street Racer is one of those really early racing ideas and video games. I had fun playing Street Racer on the Evercade systems. I could see families enjoying this game on the Atari 2600 and the Evercade systems. I hope there are more games like Street Racer in the near future. It was a pleasure for me to play and review Street Racer. Street Racer is great for working on your hand eye coordination.
