The Addams Family
SCORE: 66
Back in 2019 The Addams Family received a bit of a reboot into an
animated film. I have done the research and see there was a sequel in
2021. Here I am watching and reviewing it in 2022. For some reason a lot
of companies had problems getting information out about their products
during the Chinese COVID-19 pandemic. Films have been delayed as well as
home releases. I am thankful I had the money to purchase the DVD version
of The Addams Family.
The Addams Family really focuses on the morbid, and macabre. In many
ways The Addams Family feels like a horror film. There are plenty of
scary dark powers many of these characters use. There are some real
cringe moments like when a seance is performed. I know a lot of people
that would be running far away if that happened in real life. It made my
skin crawl.
The storyline revolves around The Addams Family wanting to have a home
where they can raise their children. They find a creepy haunted asylum
and move in there. They keep to themselves even though the spirit living
in the house tells everyone to get out. A home improvement lady
renovates an entire town near the haunted creepy asylum. This is where
conflict comes into play because the creepy asylum could hurt the value
of the homes that were built. This would bankrupt Margo. Pugsley must
learn a sword dance or disgrace his family.
Conformity is an interesting topic discussed in The Addams Family. Margo
is referenced as trying to make everyone conform to a certain look and
image. Wednesday also points out that The Addams Family demands everyone
conform to their look and way of doing things. It is interesting to see
and hear how both sides are actually demanding others conform to their
look, feel, and perspective.
There is plenty of humor within The Addams Family. There is also some
creepy violence. Wednesday buries her brother alive, Uncle Fester gets
stabbed numerous times, and more. There is some slight lack of attire,
enticement to lust aspects in The Addams Family. Family is shown as very
important within The Addams Family. A lot of The Addams Family is on the
dark side. There are plenty of attacks on cleanliness, following the
rules, and being decent.
