Wild Cards The Drawing of Cards #1
SCORE: 75
There are two different comic book stores we go to in our area. I
visit each of them once a month. One of these stores had Wild Cards The
Drawing of Cards #2. I then went online and purchased Wild Cards The
Drawing of Cards #1. I had enough comic book backlog to be able to hold
off on reading the second issue until I read the first one. When I was
younger I read the Wild Card books. It has been some time since I read
those books. If Wild Cards The Drawing of Cards #1 is changing things I
would not recall what they are. There will be spoilers in this review.
About all I remember about the Wild Cards franchise is some gas was
released on New York city and it killed some people outright, hideously
transformed others, and still others were given powers. Those with super
powers were the aces. This is right after World War II, and based on
George R.R. Martin's writings. This franchise has already seen over
twenty-five novels, twenty short stories, and more. Forty different
authors have worked on the Wild Cards franchise. I was very curious how
the comic book would be.
Wild Cards The Drawing of Cards #1 shows us the Takisian people from
another planet. They want to test the gas on Earth because they want to
understand how it works better. They need live subjects. One of them is
concerned that humans could be a lost colony of their people since we
are nearly identical. The weapon crashes and a mob boss finds it. He
realizes the potential and plans to use it to extort the government.
That is where Wild Cards The Drawing of Cards #1 ends off. I will need
to keep reading to find out what happens next.
Since I read many of the books decades ago I have some good idea where
the story line is going. Wild Cards The Drawing of Cards #1 is a good
start to the franchise. Most of the bad language is done in symbols so
readers do not know exactly what is being said. I appreciate when
writers do that because they leave it to our imagination if we choose to
even entertain that though. The alternative is to move on. There are
twenty pages of content within Wild Cards The Drawing of Cards #1. Ads
are strewn throughout the comic book.
I find it very cool to see the Wild Cards franchise appear in comic book
form. I plan on continuing to read through this comic book as the time
and financial resources allow. Wild Cards The Drawing of Cards #1 is a
good start to the franchise. The images of people being mutated may
bother some readers. Thankfully Wild Cards The Drawing of Cards #1 is
rated for thirteen and older only. I would advise parents to follow
that.
