8 Eyes
SCORE: 65
I am very thankful I had the money to
purchase the Piko Interactive Collection 1 on the Evercade system. 8
Eyes is one of the games that came on that cartridge. 8 Eyes is a
mixture of Mega Man and Castlevania. There are eight levels to go
through. Each boss is weak against a sword provided to the player after
beating a different level. 8 Eyes needs to be played in a specific
order. 8 Eyes is also on the 8-bit NES, and Steam.
8 Eyes can be played by one or two players. If you play by yourself then
you control Orin and Cutrus. If there are two players then one controls
Orin and the other Cutrus. The two player experience is better per the
research I performed on 8 Eyes. Cutrus is a falcon that can fly around
and attack monsters. When you play 8 Eyes with one person then you have
limited usage of the falcon. This makes the experience much more
difficult.
The enemies can be obnoxious and frustrating in 8 Eyes. I noticed their
reach almost always beat my reach. I also had trouble figuring out how
to open doors and find my way out of certain repeating screens.
Graphically 8 Eyes looks like an 8-bit video game. The music is pleasant
to listen to in 8 Eyes. The controls can be a bit on the sluggish side
from time to time. Enemies will respawn again and again. We collect
crosses after beating the enemies in 8 Eyes.
I was able to get 8 Eyes for a very low price so I may be a bit more
lenient on it. I felt like I was missing so many concepts when I played
8 Eyes. A great example is in the video I did of this game where I was
stuck in repeating screens. I could break one block and not be able to
fit through the hole. I could have done research later to see what I
needed to do. Honestly 8 Eyes did not endear itself to me enough to
warrant any more time.
The storyline revolves around getting these gems and putting them on the
Altar of Peace in the specific right order or you lose. Hints can be
found throughout the game and of course in online walkthroughs. A lot of
8 Eyes feels obnoxious to me. This game goes out of its way to mess over
players. I know this is an older video game, but the experience of that
is still extremely bad to this very day.
