Batman Beyond Neo-Gothic #1
SCORE: 72
Long time readers know I was happily surprised by Batman Beyond Neo
Year. At the end of the run it mentioned Batman Beyond would come back
in 2023. Here we are in August of 2023 (at least the time this review is
being written) and Batman Beyond Neo-Gothic #1 is being reviewed. Peter
noticed this comic book right away when we were at the comic book store
and knew it was one I wanted to read. Here I am reading and reviewing
it. There will be spoilers in this review.
Now that the AI is no longer there to keep the criminals in check it is
open season on crime. That means Batman must work really long hours
trying to stop all of these criminals. Batman is the only one doing
anything about crime in Neo Gotham. Batman Beyond Neo-Gothic #1 shows
the toll on Terry McGinnis. I also learned a bit about his mother and
brother in Batman Beyond Neo-Gothic #1. Terry sent them away when Bruce
Wayne was murdered.
Batman Beyond Neo-Gothic #1 contains thirty pages of comic book content,
and then some advertisements. The issues families can have with Batman
Beyond Neo-Gothic #1 are violence, and lack of attire. There is this
really cool umbrella in Batman Beyond Neo-Gothic #1 that is all lit up.
It is also flat. I am not sure if it is warm or not and turns the rain
into steam or not. It is a very interesting idea for something used in
the future.
Batman goes down into the lower levels of the city in Batman Beyond
Neo-Gothic #1. Children have gone missing down there. Sinkholes is the
theory but it does not fit the profile. Readers see early on that the
kids are being sucked down thanks to the plants. A future Poison Ivy
perhaps? A cat like humanoid creature helps out Batman by being a guide.
For a price of course. They run into a real problem in the lowest level
they go to though.
A giant Croc character walking on two feet grabs Batman in Batman Beyond
Neo-Gothic #1. I was thinking Killer Croc at first, but the next issue
is supposed to be about King Croc. So many Killer Croc upgraded in the
DC Universe future. Batman Beyond Neo-Gothic #1 uses a lot of dark
tones. There are some neat two page spreads in Batman Beyond Neo-Gothic
#1. The credits is on one of those using up just some of the bottom.
Some of the layouts in Batman Beyond Neo-Gothic #1 are really neat to
see and read.
