Batman Fortress #1
SCORE: 70
If you caught the short Peter did of the comic book grab bags then
you know we got a few of the Batman Fortress comic books. I wound up
purchasing the missing ones online to be able to read this story and see
what it was all about. I found myself a bit apprehensive about reading
Batman Fortress #1. After reading this comic book I am glad we purchased
it. Batman Fortress #1 is very different than I expected. There will be
spoilers in this review.
First and foremost Batman Fortress #1 is dark. I mean the tones. We are
at night during a blackout. In fact the entire planet has lost power and
radio. We are going to miss the really cool voices on talk radio in this
fantasy universe. Totally lame. Batman Fortress #1 starts out with some
thieves breaking into Wayne Manor and Bruce Wayne fighting them off.
Then Batman goes about trying to solve the problem. Thankfully they
still have power in the Batcave.
Commissioner Gordon uses car batteries to light the Bat signal in Batman
Fortress #1. Batman eventually shows up but cannot find Superman. At the
end of Batman Fortress #1 we learn there is an alien craft in orbit of
the Earth. Higher up satellites were not effected by the attack that
took out their power. Generators are working though. Hopefully they can
get things fixed up soon in Batman Fortress #1.
The main issue families can have with Batman Fortress #1 is violence.
Both Penguin and Joker escaped during the blackout. Batman easily
captures both of them. The Joker has some funny lines in Batman Fortress
#1 too. Penguin is trying to drown someone and Batman stops him. Joker
had a bus full of people. Joker is always going to maximum impact and
casualties whenever he can. Batman Fortress #1 has twenty-four pages of
content with ads throughout the comic book.
I am looking forward to comics after Batman Fortress #1 because there
will be other heroes showing up. We will also find out who launched this
attack. Batman Fortress #1 does not let us know what is going on with
Superman. There are multiple different scenarios that could play out. I
am confused why the aliens are taking so long to attack after crippling
radio and power on the planet. I would think they would attack right
after that.
