Batman/Spawn #1

During Free Comic Book Day 2023 we spent enough money to receive a bag of free comic books and some graphic novels. Batman/Spawn #1 is one of those that came in the free bag of comic books. At first I thought cool I get three comic books in this series. Upon deeper inspection I discovered I was given the same comic book three times. The difference is the front covers. That is a bit on the lame side in my opinion.

There will be spoilers in this review of the Batman/Spawn #1 comic book. The cover to Batman/Spawn #1 is pretty thick. there are forty-eight comic book content pages with no advertisements within Batman/Spawn #1. The Court of Owls and Court of Priests bring together Batman and Spawn. As expected the two of them wind up fighting it out to a stalemate in Batman/Spawn #1.

The two then team up to go after their foes. They were manipulated into that place at that time. The villains goals make little sense to me. At one point they want Batman dead. Then they want Batman to open a portal for them by lying to him and telling him he can save the soul of his dead mother. What about his father? That does not matter to anyone in Batman/Spawn #1.

The issues families will have with Batman/Spawn #1 are blood, gore, violence, and more. There is talk of hell and demons in Batman/Spawn #1. As far as I can tell Batman/Spawn #1 is a one shot that ultimately made little sense. Spawn pretends to be Batman and kills a man right in front of Arkham Asylum. That way the villains will think Batman will murder them if they push him too far. That is what the Joker wants.

I have read plenty of Batman comics through the years and some of Batman/Spawn #1 has a Batman feel to it. I have not read Spawn for decades. I never really connected with that series. In the end the heroes win and do not give the courts what they want. The epilogue makes no sense to me either. If there are more comic books in this series I do not plan on purchasing them.
