Breaklands Volume 1
SCORE: 58
If you are reading our other reviews then you know I received some
free stuff on Free Comic Book Day 2023. Breaklands Volume 1 was one of
the free graphic novels I received for spending so much money. I
realized that even if Breaklands Volume 1 is completely horrible it was
free. The initial price for Breaklands Volume 1 at the store was $19.99.
Then they tried it 50% off at $9.99. Finally they just put in the free
boxes on FCBD 2023. There will be spoilers in this review.
Breaklands Volume 1 contains the first five issues of the comic book.
Breaklands Volume 1 ends at a pretty good spot too. Since this is five
comic books it is a bit small for a graphic novel. In fact out of all
the graphic novels I own Breaklands Volume 1 is the smallest. Again it
was free so I am not that concerned. The issues families will have with
Breaklands Volume 1 are lack of attire, enticement to lust, blood, gore,
bad language and more.
All of the people in this strange fantasy world have some power. Kasa
Fain thinks she has no power. Her younger brother Adam is a shaper and
that means he can change the world around him however he wants. We do
learn that Kasa actually has a power in Breaklands Volume 1. She can
negate the power of others. In fact she hid her brother for quite a few
years with her power. Their mother left and promised to return at some
point.
Kasa goes out hunting when her brother Adam decides to disobey and go
out exploring. Adam gets kidnapped and Kasa goes on a quest to find him.
She is aided by Gargarin who can sniff out others with powers. Adam is
like a shining beacon to him. Toy is a Boiler that also assists in the
quest. There is also this rather large black guy who can put himself
back together after taking any damage.
Kasa saves Adam near the end of Breaklands Volume 1. There is still this
shining city that wants Adam for some purpose. Ultimately Breaklands
Volume 1 leaves a few threads open. I suppose there will be a sequel at
some point. The art in Breaklands Volume 1 is not great. The story
telling is interesting. This world is also interesting. I did not pay
anything for Breaklands Volume 1 so I am not complaining too much. I can
see why others did not want to purchase this graphic novel.
