Elvis
SCORE: 68
I am very thankful I had the money to purchase a copy of Elvis on
DVD. It takes one hundred and fifty-nine minutes to watch Elvis from
start to finish. Austin Butler plays Elvis, and Tom Hanks plays Colonel
Tom Parker. After watching this movie I did some research and found
there are aspects of the film that do not match real life. Hollyweird is
at it again redefining things because they find it more exciting.
There will be spoilers in this review. The issues families will have
with Elvis are bad language, lack of attire, enticement to lust, sex
outside marriage, drugs, and more. Elvis complains about white privilege
and leads viewers to believe all Elvis did was steal from the black
people, and got his breaks because of the color of his skin. This movie
also claims those who protect morality were going to arrest Elvis. So he
went into the Army to avoid going to jail. This movie ignored history
where Elvis was drafted and willingly went into the Army without the
threat of going to jail.
There is so much that Elvis left out like the favorite sandwich, and
divorce. Colonel Tom Parker is shown as a greedy toad. In reality the
Colonel stole from Elvis and lost a law suit where he had to pay money
back. Elvis does touch on the drug use of Elvis as well as his adultery.
This movie does not touch on the adultery from Priscilla. It is a real
shame proper context is not shown in this movie. But then Hollyweird has
their sermons they like to preach.
There are plenty of performances of Elvis shown in this movie. Including
his protest song If I Can Dream. This movie shows Elvis is a pretty
radical on the far left. I never heard that before. In fact research I
performed showed that Elvis was actually conservative. He was for the
Vietnam war, against abortion, against the ERA, for the military and
more. Hollyweird does audiences a dis-service by trying to redefine
things. His protest song is about loving one another - a gospel theme.
Elvis brings up an interesting aspect of history. You have probably
heard people say: "they blamed rock n roll, and Elvis's pelvis for the
moral decline." Look where we are now as a nation. Ever wonder if the
people sounding those alarms were right? Each little degeneration has
led to worse ones later. It was a path the worldly American culture took
as the envelope kept getting pushed farther and farther away from God.
