Gargoyles Dark Ages #1
SCORE: 75
The boys and I were at a local comic book store recently and Peter
pointed out Gargoyles Dark Ages #1 to me. I knew the Gargoyles comic
book series recently started and has been interesting. So I decided to
check out this offshoot. Gargoyles Dark Ages #1 takes us back to the
year 971. So over a thousand years ago we learn about Gargoyles from
that time period. There will be some spoilers in this review.
The first interesting thing to me is the gargoyles have no names in
Gargoyles Dark Ages #1. For some odd reason they do not get names. I am
very confused how they address one another then. How would you describe
another gargoyle that did something or did not do something? I find it
all so very odd. The gargoyles do turn into stone at day time. So that
curse has already been put in place before Gargoyles Dark Ages #1.
There are twenty-four pages of comic book content within Gargoyles Dark
Ages #1. Then there are three pages with a story on the tale of three
brothers. Then three pages of interview questions for Greg Weisman, and
Drew Moss. Those two are behind this comic book. They even reference how
it was pitched to Disney and Dynamite Comics. After that content then we
get some advertisements and finally the cover gallery.
Human kings rise and fall in Gargoyles Dark Ages #1. Robert brings
Prince Malcolm to meet the leader of the Wyvern Clan of gargoyles. They
seek an alliance against Culen who had King Duff assassinated so Culen
could become king. If your head is spinning then you must comprehend how
the gargoyles feel. The alliance is made in Gargoyles Dark Ages #1. The
humans start a battle and the gargoyles join when the sun sets.
There is a bit of mild violence within Gargoyles Dark Ages #1. I looks
like there may be even more violence coming up in the next issue. The
human army of King Culen is advancing as the gargoyles wake up and are
flying to the rescue. There are some new characters and well known
characters in Gargoyles Dark Ages #1. The well known characters are much
younger of course. Thus far this offshoot is interesting.
