Glory Road

I had received Glory Road as a gift at some point. It may have been my birthday in August of 2022. It is one of those movies I finally got around to. I knew there would most likely be challenges with watching Glory Road. I did not know how many until I went and did research into what really happened. Hollyhate strikes again with their mental illness of having to redefine things. The real story is so much more interesting. There will be spoilers in this review.

Glory Road is extremely loosely based on the story of Don Haskins the coach of Texas Western University. This basketball team would go on to win the NCAA Tournament in 1966. Glory Road shows this team faced all kinds of hatred because of the color of their skin. Glory Road teaches that white people are keeping black people down. Glory Road also teaches that white people need to step aside for black people to do what they want to do.

Glory Road makes a big deal that the 1966 NCAA Championship game was the first time there was an all black team starting. The thing is there had been plenty of other NCAA championship teams with three or four black starters. Glory Road is extremely disingenuous on this point. Glory Road also makes Texas Western University look like the underdog when they were ranked third in the nation.

The issues families can have with Glory Road is lack of attire, bad language, racism, and more. There are more racial slurs slung at white people than black people in Glory Road. It is interesting that the white people do not react to being called racial slurs and hate speech. The black people freak out when it happens to them. What does that tell us about Glory Road? I will let you make your own call.

My biggest concern with Glory Road is the racial lies and exaggerations that are told. I have talked to some people who have this racial hate against white people from what the movies tell them. Not from real world experiences. How are movies like Glory Road making the world a better place? Glory Road also diminishes real people who have faced real racism. Lies and exaggerations from Glory Road only increase skeptics. I wish Glory Road had stuck to the facts.
