My Hero Academia Vol 1
SCORE: 67
Noah is all into My Hero Academia. He enjoys the anime, and has
clothing with the characters from the show on them. I saw the manga and
thought he might be interested in it. That is why I purchased My Hero
Academia Vol 1. Noah has been reading One Piece manga so I thought he
would be all over this manga. Thus far Noah has not even looked at My
Hero Academia Vol 1. I decided to go ahead and read it for a review. It
is interesting to go back to the beginning of this franchise after
seeing so much of the anime.
We meet Izuku Midoriya in My Hero Academia Vol 1. He is a young man who
wants to be a hero so badly. Both of his parents have quirks so it
should be a slam dunk. Unfortunately for Izuku he has no quirk. Around
eighty percent of the population in this fantasy world have some quirk.
For those that do not know a quirk is a super power. All Might is the
number one hero in My Hero Academia Vol 1. All Might is looking for his
successor. All Might sees Midoriya rush in to save someone even though
he has no powers. He makes his decision.
There is one really gross thing in My Hero Academia Vol 1. Izuku must
eat one of the hairs of All Might to gain the power. The power is passed
along from person to person. My Hero Academia Vol 1 does not get into it
but the power grows stronger with each person. There is also violence,
bad language, and blood within My Hero Academia Vol 1. It certainly
earns it thirteen and older only rating. Some people with powers pick on
the quirkless kid because they abuse their power. A sad testament to how
many people in our world act as well.
Midoriya goes on a tough training regiment to be able to hold the power
of All Might. He then must take the exam to get into the school. He uses
the power to save someone else. In the process it messes up his own body
quite badly. Other characters comment that it is like he is not used to
his power. They are completely accurate in their assessment. Izuku must
continue to train to learn his power and how to regulate it.
My Hero Academia Vol 1 is a decent read with some nice artwork here and
there. Katsuki Bakugo sets himself up as the obstacle Izuku must
overcome in My Hero Academia Vol 1. He does stand up to him thankfully.
