Old Towers
SCORE: 84
Every so often I get to review a product that echoes what we have
been writing about for decades. Old Towers is one of those video games.
I played Old Towers on the Mega Cat Studios Collection 1 on the Evercade
cartridge. Old Towers can also be purchased on the original Genesis.
Mega Cat Studios made cartridges on the 16-bit system for Old Towers.
How cool is that? There are just over forty levels of this puzzle video
game.
Graphically Old Towers did not really impress me much. There are some
decent animations here and there. We must collect all of the coins and
get to the goal tiles. There are a few hazards to avoid like spikes, and
enemies. The one thing that confused me about Old Towers is the second
character. I was stuck in a level because I could not get over to the
area where there were more coins left. I pressed all kinds of different
buttons until I swapped to the other character. Once I learned that
technique I was good. Old Towers did nothing to educate me to that
beforehand though.
The music in Old Towers is pretty catchy. I enjoyed listening to the
music in this newly made retro video game quite a bit. Old Towers is one
of those games where it shows there are still ideas that can and will
work on retro video game consoles. It should also be less expensive for
developers and publishers to make retro video games on the older
systems. I know plenty of retro gamers that enjoy video games done in
the older style.
We move our characters in four directions in Old Towers. We can go left,
right, up and down. We keep moving in that direction until we bump into
an object. We can run into spikes from the side and stay alive. I
remember when I tested that while I was live streaming this game. I
thought it would be an instant death. Thankfully I was wrong.
I enjoyed my time with Old Towers. I wish there were more levels
personally. I was able to blow through quite a few levels while I live
streamed Old Towers. It is also quite the bargain to play Old Towers on
the Evercade. There are ten games on the Mega Cat Studios Collection 1
cartridge for the Evercade. I spent around twenty dollars on that
cartridge. I find that to be a really good deal personally.
