Overwatch New Blood #1

There is a little story behind Overwatch New Blood #1. Peter, Noah and myself were at one of our local comic book stores and Peter noticed Overwatch New Blood #1. The store also had issues two through four. The cover clearly states this is a five part series. I decided to go ahead and check them out. The next month we came back and issue number five was there. So I am thankful to have the money to be able to purchase the entire thing and work in these issues as time allows. Overwatch is a video game related franchise even if I do not play it much.

There will be spoilers in this review. Since Noah and Peter are way more familiar with these characters I have asked them quite a few questions concerning them. Overwatch New Blood #1 takes us along with Cole Cassidy. He is a cowboy looking kind of gentleman that smokes and drinks. Cole meets up with Ana Amari. Talon is hunting former Overwatch agents. Ana is trying to recruit Cole to lead a new team. She has recruits in mind.

The issues families can have with Overwatch New Blood #1 is violence, smoking and drinking. Ads are found throughout Overwatch New Blood #1. There are twenty pages of content, next issue, and Horsepower. I looked at a lot of the ads in Overwatch New Blood #1 and very little interested me. Dark Horse Comics used to make some interesting comics when I was last in the comic book industry. Now they are blah and look to be ultra radical on the far left end of the spectrum. Maybe that kind of woke content sells.

The art work and color scheme are on the light side. It threw me for a bit. It is like looking through a haze or something. I could see after all the gunfire having that kind of an effect for a bit. Otherwise it just does not seem to fit. Maybe that is a Dark Horse Comics thing. I hope the next four are not like that. They probably will be though. I think Overwatch New Blood #1 is my first Dark Horse Comics book since coming back to the comic book industry.

Fans of Overwatch should get a kick out of Overwatch New Blood #1. There are other characters that will be coming into this five series limited edition series. Pharah is the next one that comes up. I like how Overwatch New Blood #1 explains what is coming up in the next issue. That is pretty neat. Most other comic book companies just show one of the front covers. Overwatch New Blood #1 does not show the alternate covers. Something I know IDW Publishing does and I appreciate being able to see them.
