Sonic Frontiers

I am so thankful I had the money to purchase a copy of Sonic Frontiers on the Xbox Series X. This open world action adventure platformer has many cool things going for it. This is an open world Sonic the Hedgehog video game that works. There are instances where we get stuck in 2D actions or 3D actions when we want the other one. Those are rare and I found ways to get around it most of the time. We do a lot of different things in Sonic Frontiers too.

We find these little guys and can turn them in to get more rings or more speed. We also find seeds that increase our power and defense. There are puzzles to solve, and enemies to defeat. The gears are used to open 2D side scrolling levels that are in Cyber space. There are items to get to help a character like Amy, Tails, and Knuckles. We can open parts of the map thanks to the simple little puzzles. There are five islands in Sonic Frontiers. The story telling really caught my attention in Sonic Frontiers. That is one of the reasons I kept playing this game.

The voice actor for Sonic is someone new and that felt off and wrong. We can run around in circles to generate rings when we get low. Riding on rails is fun within Sonic Frontiers. We collect Chaos Emeralds to get to the end bosses. These titan bosses can be challenging. Sonic Frontiers relies a lot on the Parry skill. We can unlock skills thanks to the skill points we find and earn in Sonic Frontiers. There are plenty of 2D things to do and find within Sonic Frontiers. I loved running in a circle drawing a line and digging up a treasure chest in Sonic Frontiers.

We can leave markers on the map to find certain areas we want to get to in Sonic Frontiers. The game will direct you to the next spot. One thing that annoyed me was being told to find more memories for Amy for example. The game points me to Amy. I had to find her memories through exploration. It would have been nice if Sonic Frontiers pointed me to areas where the memories were. I learned after the first world to explore a lot and collect these items before trying to do too much.

Sonic Frontiers is longer than most of the Sonic video games I have played. Hopefully you were able to catch some of the live streams I performed of Sonic Frontiers. If not please check them out in our video sections. Sonic Frontiers can be a bit light compared to other open world games.
