Sonic the Hedgehog #8
SCORE: 80
While I was at one of our local comic book stores I found this old
Sonic the Hedgehog comic book. This is when Sonic the Hedgehog was being
published by Archie Comics. I had no idea what Sonic the Hedgehog #8
would be like. I thought it might be interesting to read and review.
Sonic the Hedgehog #8 reminds me a lot of the Looney Tunes. There are
nods to other comic books within Sonic the Hedgehog #8 as well. There
will be some spoilers in this review. Sonic the Hedgehog #8 comes with
two separate and distinct stories.
The first story within Sonic the Hedgehog #8 is Bots All Folks. Ivo
Robotnik finds out one of his robots was reading comic books. There is
no reading allowed. It is one of his rules. Sonic the Hedgehog #3 is
supposed to contain all of the rules. I am not able to verify that at
this time. This bot explains he read the comic books for ideas on how to
stop Sonic the Hedgehog and his Freedom Fighters. The idea is to make
super powered robots to take out Sonic. It is actually a pretty good
idea. I was expecting Metal Sonic or something like that.
Sonic the Hedgehog #8 goes a completely different direction. There are
robots that are cloned after other well known heroes and people. Sonic
is getting trashed at first. Then Sonic goes super speed and dismantles
these robots. Keeping up with Sonic seems like a good idea in my
opinion. I guess Robotnik did not think of matching the speed. There are
ads found throughout Sonic the Hedgehog #8. The Bots All Folks story is
eleven pages of content. There is some cartoon violence in this story in
Sonic the Hedgehog #8.
The second story in Sonic the Hedgehog #8 is A Little Sonic Goes A Long
Way. This story is thirteen pages of content. The total content within
Sonic the Hedgehog #8 is twenty-four pages. A bit better than many of
the current modern day comic books we have been reading. Robotnik is
annoyed by Sonic and the Freedom Fighters playing music. So he decides
to stop them. He shrinks them and tries to suck them up with a vacuum
cleaner. The ideas of the bad guy in Sonic the Hedgehog #8 are not very
bright.
As expected Sonic and the Freedom Fighters eventually defeat Robotnik.
The shrink ray only lasts an hour. In terms of writing Sonic the
Hedgehog #8 is a bit on the younger side. Adults like myself question
some of the choices that were made. Why not shrink them more than one
time? Or reset that clock on the one hour shrinking? Sonic the Hedgehog
#8 is something that kids will probably enjoy more than adults. I am
thankful I found this comic book for one dollar, and it was in okay
shape.
