Sonic The Hedgehog Scrapnik Island #1

I have been enjoying the mainline Sonic The Hedgehog comic books. I ran across Sonic The Hedgehog Scrapnik Island #1 at one of our local comic book stores and decided to check it out. I have done some research and see that Sonic The Hedgehog Scrapnik Island is a four issue series. So it will be on the short side. This is fine with me. The story is obviously a side one that could fit into all kinds of places in the Sonic The Hedgehog timeline. There will be some spoiler in this very review.

Sonic The Hedgehog Scrapnik Island #1 starts really dark and gloomy. Sonic and Tails are flying through a dark storm when they come across an island to set down on. The plan is to set down and wait out the storm. There is one small problem though. The island in Sonic The Hedgehog Scrapnik Island #1 is actually what is left of a Death Egg. The duo gets hit by lightning and crash onto the Death Egg. When Sonic wakes up he has a metal brace on his foot and Tails is gone. He is also surrounded in the dark by Scrapniks.

As expected Sonic the Hedgehog tries to get away in Sonic The Hedgehog Scrapnik Island #1. His foot injury is part of the problem. He eventually finds Tails and learns that these are good robots that are trying to turn off the weather machine that caused them to crash. Mecha Sonic is also on this floating piece of abandoned technology. Actually all of them have been left behind by Eggman. Tails totally geeks out over all of the parts he finds in Sonic The Hedgehog Scrapnik Island #1. There is also problems brewing at the end of Sonic The Hedgehog Scrapnik Island #1.

The art starts dark and gloomy in Sonic The Hedgehog Scrapnik Island #1. Thankfully it does brighten up later on. There are twenty pages of content, then next months cover, Sonic Letter Squad, Creators Corner, alternate covers and finally some advertisements. For me the story was very predictable. The confusion would not have happened if the Scrapniks had spoken up sooner. Creeping toward Sonic the Hedgehog in the darkness is not exactly the most intelligent thing to do. I am surprised Sonic did not trash a few of them.

Sonic and Tails are stuck on this floating Death Egg until the weather machine can be turned off. I expect this four issue mini series will get us to that point near the end. Until then some bots will glitch and Sonic will have to fight injured. Sonic The Hedgehog Scrapnik Island #1 is not horrible but it is also not the greatest. The concept behind Sonic The Hedgehog Scrapnik Island #1 is interesting. I hope Sonic and Tails can rescue these bots as long as that is what they want. I found the creator behind Sonic The Hedgehog Scrapnik Island #1 to be interesting.
